Portugal is invited to integrate the Global Social Impact Investment Steering Group
“Portugal was one of the five countries invited to integrate the Global Social Impact Investment Steering Group (GSG), (…) countries considered innovators in the area of social investment.”
Portugal was one of the five countries invited to integrate the Global Social Impact Investment Steering Group (GSG), being represented by Portugal Inovação Social, Filipe Simões dos Santos.
The GSG follows the G8 Social Impact Investment Taskforce in order to catalise a global social investment market. In addition to the constituent members of G8 Taskforce, the GSG will count with Brasil, India Israel, Mexico and Portugal, countries considered innovators in the area of social investment. The GSG will coordinate actions amongst members in order to align shared objectives, promote knowledge exchange and provide practical assistance for the development of national markets.
The invitation address to Portugal to integrate the GSG was a result of the work developed by the Portuguese Social Investment Task Force, promoted by Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian and led by Laboratório de Investimento Social, who mobilised the important civil society stakeholders around this topic. Such invitation can also be attributed to the strategic move the Portuguese Government took when creating Portugal Inovação Social, as part of Portugal 2020, aimed at encouraging investment in innovative and social entrepreneurship initiatives throughout the next years.
